The innagural Boafo Beauty Blog Internship Summer Session is over, but all good things must come to an end. Learn about Alana Matthew's experience as a writing intern for the blog this summer, and what's next for the upcoming writing talent.
First and foremost, I want to thank Nelly Ghansah for welcoming me to the Boafo Beauty Blog team! I knew it was going to be a click when she told me about five seconds after my interview that I got the position. The energy was immaculate and has stayed that way for the past 3 months.
Also, special thanks to Michael for being an Editor-in-Chief of substance! Constantly giving great feedback and making sure my voice was shining in every piece I published.
I Give Boafo Beauty a 10/10.
I’m honestly so sad to leave the Boafo Beauty blog as a part of the inaugural class, but no doubt those after us will find this experience as rewarding as I did. Being that this internship not only gave me a chance to experience my writing skills over the summer, it was also a great introduction to the world of Marketing and Journalism.
If like me you are an individual who wants to pursue a career in those fields, this is 100% the internship for you. Nelly, as the Founder and CEO of the internship, was so much more hands-on and active than you’d expect the leader to be right off the bat! The culture of this internship was warm, welcoming, informative, and inspiring. There was an opportunity to learn at every corner. The part that stood out about this internship, and I say this to literally anyone who will listen, was that you learn from your peers! Everyone on the team, including higher-ups, comes with a unique set of skills that shine through no matter what we’re working on. It’s so rewarding to learn from people your age or a tad older.
What’s Next for Alana?
As this internship comes to an end, I have another one lined up! From here on out I will be participating in the work-based program Career Explorers by PENCIL Inc. There I will be working on a Capstone project that dissects the D&I efforts specifically in corporate spaces as it pertains to Internal Communications and PR. Then, this fall I will be attending the illustrious Howard University majoring in Journalism and minoring in Sociology (it definitely changed since the introduction article, but it be like that sometimes!).
All in all, Boafo Beauty is the place to be! Eternally grateful to everyone in this internship who I learned from both indirectly and directly. You’ll be seeing me in a viral article or on a TV screen real soon!
