Summer is officially here! With the new season comes new fashion trends, so check out some of our favorite Summer 2021 fashion trends with a focus on affordability and sustainability!
Summer is finally in full swing, and one of my favorite things about this season is the fashion. I love the heat, especially because it lets me bring out my crop tops, skirts, and sandals.
Last Summer, we were all mostly stuck at home due to the pandemic. Now that things are finally clearing up, I'm excited to wear all my best outfits outside!
I love a lot of the trends coming out of runway style and internet fashion this season because many of them channel vintage looks and fashion of the early 2000s. As a 2000s baby, these callbacks remind me of so many outfits that I obsessed over as a kid. It feels fun to dress the way the version of myself as a child would've thought was cool!
Here is how I style 5 of my favorite fashion trends for Summer 2021!
Summer 2021 Trends
1. Corsets
Corsets have without a doubt had a major comeback. I have seen so many stores selling chic corsets and bustier-style tops in all sorts of colors and materials. However, a lot of times they can also come at a steep price point.
Thankfully, the best part about so many vintage-inspired pieces coming back in style is that you can find them secondhand! Buying pre-owned clothes is an amazing way to find unique and well-made pieces, usually for a lower price.
This black, lacy corset top is a vintage lingerie piece that I bought secondhand from a consignment store.
Because the corset is already such a statement piece, I paired it with some casual denim cutoffs that help dress down the outfit. Then, I accessorized the look with a green shoulder bag (made with vegan materials!) and a pair of strappy platform sandals.
The shoes are actually hand-me-downs from my mom. Pro-tip: older relatives sometimes have the best finds if you're looking for vintage pieces!
2. Crochet
Crochet might be my favorite trend that's making a comeback this Summer. It's fun, whimsical, and is suitable for both casual and dressed-up outfits.
This is a crocheted set that I handmade myself. Despite how complex the knots may appear, it's surprisingly simple to learn. I made both of these pieces as a novice by following video tutorials I found online.
I love buying high-quality and beautifully colored yarns. Despite this, the overall cost of making the set is so much less than you'd pay to get something similar from a store.
If you don't have the time to learn how to crochet yourself, crocheted pieces are also something that I often find while shopping secondhand.
3. Scarves
Scarves have recently become super trendy, but not just to wear around your neck! You can tie them in many different ways to wear as a shirt, bandana, skirt, and more.
In this outfit, I folded one of my silky scarves in half and tied it around my neck like a halter top. This look definitely reminds me of 2000s pop stars!
With this outfit, I wore a pair of statement pants that I painted myself. Fabric painting is a fun and easy DIY if you're feeling crafty and want to create a completely unique piece. Best of all, it's inexpensive.
The pants were a pair of white jeans I bought from a thrift store a long time ago and hadn't worn in a while. By painting them, I was able to give them new life instead of giving them away.
I paired this vibrant outfit with my green shoulder bag and a pair of bright red heeled booties.
4. Maxi Skirts
Maxi skirts are amazing because they look cute and dressed up while being so much more comfortable than a typical mini skirt.
I also find them to be super flattering, especially those that taper as they go down the leg and cut off mid-calf.
I found this green knitted skirt at a local antique store. It's a very versatile piece; I can wear it with some heels to go out or I can throw on some sneakers and run errands.
I paired this skirt with a bright burnt orange crop top and wrapped the adjustable ties around my waist for an added detail.
I really enjoy bright, fun color combinations, and this outfit encompasses that!
5. Monochrome
Monochrome looks are an effortless way to achieve a coordinated and put-together outfit. You can combine various shades of a singular color to create a cohesive look.
For this monochrome outfit, I chose pieces in red, a statement color that exudes confidence. I feel like colors can inspire different moods, and this look is definitely an attention grabber.
I incorporated the scarf trend into this outfit as well by tying this one around my chest like a bandana. I love the fringe detail that hangs from one side.
I paired the scarf with a pair of boot-cut red corduroys and finished the look off with some red-strapped clogs.
Not only was this outfit very easy to put together, but it was also all secondhand! The scarf and pants were more hand-me-downs from my mom (who clearly has impeccable style).
The Makeup Look
For me, makeup is like an accessory, and I usually don't feel like my outfit is complete without a complimentary makeup look.
This graphic liner look I created was done using the Boafo Beauty Bright Green Liner and the Lengthening Mascara. I also used Glossier's Colorslide pencil in Adult Swim on my waterline for a pop of blue.
